It is excessive when you go on and on about a question that is not so relevant and prevents you from going into more detail. It can also make the interviewee feel uncomfortable and more reluctant to answer the next questions in detail.

I feel like it is too much when you are answering question with speed instead of accuracy and knowledge behind it. When the interview becomes a point to argue and not gain any information is when the line can be crossed and when the attention from the interview is taken away.
